Bucks County engagement session of Jackie & Bryan

Jackie & Bryan had a perfect fall day for their engagement session among the beautiful rolling hills of Bucks County, PA. The wedding next summer is in an equally gorgeous location – among the rolling waves and dunes of Bethany Beach, DE. Enjoy!

From the couple:

One of the things we’ve asked ourselves over the past 5+ years is how Bryan ended up at country line dancing night, where we met. The answer we keep coming back to is fate. Every decision he made that afternoon – from agreeing to go out on a weeknight, to staying once he found out it was line dancing night, to sending drinks over to my friend Amie and me – was out of character for him. Fortunately he did all of those things, and once he introduced himself we spent the rest of the night talking and laughing, telling embarrassing stories about ourselves.

Five years, a new house, one dog, and many more embarrassing stories later we are excited to become the Minkas.

We got engaged on the beach in the Dominican Republic, and set out to plan a wedding that matched our personalities. A month later, we stood in The Addy Sea, staring out at the beach and ocean just yards away. At that moment Bryan looked at me and said exactly what I was thinking: “this is the place.”

Delaware engagement photos of Gina & Ryan | Newark, DE

It’s always great getting to know my couples during an engagement session. Meeting the extended family when we finished this shoot at the Oktoberfest celebration in Newark was a rare bonus. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the wedding! Enjoy…

About the couple
Gina grew up in Newark, Delaware and has a younger brother and sister. She graduated from Glasgow High School, and received here nursing degree from the University of Delaware. She works as a nurse in the Cardiac ICU at A.I. duPont hospital for Children.Ryan grew up in Bear, Delaware, and later moved to Middletown. He has one younger sister and is a graduate of Hodgson Vo-Tech High School. He currently works as an auto painter in Wilmington, Delaware while pursuing music and photography.

How did you first meet?
We first met in middle school. Our middle school broke the 7th graders up into “teams” and we all had the same group of teachers for our classes in 7th and 8th grade. We were both on the same team. We honestly don’t remember much about middle school now. The night of our 8th grade dinner dance, me and a few of my girlfriends went to get our picture taken, and we happened to see Ryan just standing there. We decided to drag him along with us, and he got in the picture with us. We both still have a copy of that picture.

When did you start dating?

Gina: We started seeing each other around again at parties when we were 19. At that time Ryan told my friend Ashley that he was interested in me, but nothing really happened. We continued to bump into each other once in a while over the next few years, but we were both seeing other people. In June 2011, we ran into each other one night at the Deer Park Tavern. We were both single and he asked me for my number. Later that week he texted and asked me to hang out. We’ve been together ever since then.

When did you know?
Ryan: I knew she was the one when I realized how much she cared about me. She always encouraged me to develop more responsibility. At first I thought she was just nagging me, but after I thought about it more, I realized she honestly just really cared about me and my future, and wanted the best for me.

Gina: I knew he was the one pretty quickly. I never had a guy treat me the way that Ryan did. It was the little things, like offering to run out and get me something to eat before I went into work for a 12-hour shift. It’s something that he still does, and one of the things I love most about him.

Who proposed and how?
Ryan: I told my parents around Christmas 2014 that I was going to ask Gina to marry me. They were really excited. We had a trip to New Orleans planned for her birthday in March, and she was so excited for the trip. I felt like that would be the best place to ask her. The night before we left for vacation, I was at the bar with a bunch of my friends and I told them all my plans. Everyone was really excited. I wanted to propose on her birthday, so for the first few days of our trip, I was really nervous that I would lose the ring, or that she would somehow find it. They day of her birthday, I was really nervous and my friends were texting me all day to find out if I had asked her yet. I waited until after we had dinner. We took a walk a long the Mississippi River and I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.

Gina: I had a feeling he would ask me soon because he wasn’t really good at hiding what he was planning. In the days leading up to our trip, he asked me “Is there anywhere really romantic in New Orleans?” That pretty much gave it all away. I was honestly nervous the whole trip because I had a feeling it was going to happen, but I didn’t know when. The day of my birthday, he was acting a little different. When he wanted to take a walk next to the river, I was pretty sure what was happening. When he asked me, I was so excited. It was the perfect ending to a birthday that had already been amazing.
