Roshan & Dave’s vision for their wedding was an elegant & fun party. They chose to get married in the New Jersey Shore town they describe as their home away from home – Spring Lake.
When was the moment you knew you wanted to marry your spouse?
We both had different moments early in the relationship when we knew but we first told each other we wanted to get married, 6 months after we met, in the backyard of my parent’s house in Spring Lake.
What were you were most stressed about before the wedding and how did it turn out?
Roshan: I was constantly worried that people weren’t going to have fun or that my wedding wasn’t going to be cutesy enough. That’s the hardest part – realizing that people aren’t going to care about ‘tablescapes’. They want good food, good drink, and good music. I was stressed about the tiniest logistics. How will I know it’s time to walk down the aisle? Will people know where to sit? Will they get a copy of the program? Who is going to do a final check of the space to make sure it’s perfect? It all turned out wonderful. My bridesmaids were fantastic and the wedding coordinator at the golf club handled everything, I had nothing to worry about.
Tell us about your decor, flowers, etc.
Roshan: I wanted everything to be simple and elegant. I didn’t have a set theme or color or anything like that. Linens were all white; table numbers had a gold accent and were made by my bridesmaid Abbey Wells; flowers were gorgeous and bright. I left it up to Pam Newell to decide what to do and she did the greatest job. My bridesmaids were told to wear whatever they wanted, in whatever color they wanted. In the end, my disinterest in all wedding design and coordinating turned into something spectacular.
Tell us about your dress.
I got my dress at Lovely Bride in NYC. Again, my goal was simple and elegant. I wanted something bridal but wanted to look like myself. I noticed that so many dresses this season had either very low fronts or very low backs. When I bought the dress it was backless. I loved everything else about it and was giddy when I put it on. I knew it was my dress but needed to have it seriously altered to work for me. I ended up having the back of the dress reconstructed and it turned out to even better than the original.
Tell us about your cake and/or dessert.
Unfortunately we were so busy socializing we didn’t take advantage of the dessert as much as we would have liked! The cake was three tier, chocolate & vanilla, with buttercream frosting. The design was very simple and the cake topper was a Lego creation customized by Dave Leslie. There was a sundae bar featuring the famous Hoffman’s Ice Cream, and plates of cookies on each table.
Now that you’re married, and you’ve been through planning a wedding together, what advice would you give to other couples who are just starting the process?
Roshan: Relax. It’s just one day. It’s a fantastic day. But it’s just one. And have fun! No one cares about your tablescapes.
Dave: Don’t procrastinate on the small tasks and eat your cake.
What’s next for the two of you?
Living in Brooklyn Heights, eating pizza & ice cream without panicking about THE DRESS.
