Thinking back to early in your relationship, when was the moment you knew you wanted to marry your spouse?
Bryan: I saw Jackie for the first time while she was on the dance floor, line dancing. At that moment I knew she was someone I wanted to talk to. I tried to casually send her a drink, but the bartender yelled for her instead, making for an awkward moment. But we made the best of it and spent the night talking and laughing. About a week later I knew we’d spend our lives together.
Jackie: I knew within a week or so of meeting Bryan that this was it. The night we met we told each other some of the most embarrassing stories about ourselves. There was no judgment and there was no holding back. I was instantly comfortable with him, and was struck by how honest and sincere he was. You hear people say things like “when you know, you know,” and I didn’t understand what that meant until I met Bryan. A little more than 6 years later, here we are!
Who proposed to who and how?
Bryan proposed on the beach in Punta Cana while we were on vacation. He’d had the ring loose in his pocket at dinner (!) and after we ate we took a walk on the beach. We sat side-by-side in some beach chairs and he looked at me and said “so, did you still want to get married?” And when I turned to look at him he was on his knee with the ring in his hand. A year earlier we went on vacation and he told me at the outset he wasn’t planning on proposing during the trip. He didn’t want me to spend the week anxiously wondering if it was going to happen. After he proposed in Punta Cana, I realized he hadn’t given the same warning.
What was your favorite part of the wedding day?
We loved having a beach wedding weekend. A lot of our family and friends came to town the day before, and we were able to enjoy some beach time, have our rehearsal dinner, and then meet up with our friends. The wedding day started with us spending time with our friends and family on the beach, relaxing and playing games, and that flowed right into the wedding.
What was the one thing you were most stressed about before the wedding and how did it turn out?
The weather was on our minds a lot in the weeks leading up to the wedding. So far the season had been pretty rainy, and we checked the weather every day to see how things would be for us. It ended up being an absolutely perfect day!
How does it feel different being married?
We joked leading up to the wedding that it probably wouldn’t feel any different after, but we were wrong. It’s tough to explain, but being able to refer to each other as spouse/husband/wife feels like the last piece of the puzzle.
