Erin & Robin are my second couple this year that planned their wedding while at least one of the two was also working toward an advanced degree. In this case it was Erin who was completing her doctoral dissertation. (Robin had completed his well before the wedding planning started.) For the record, Erin does not suggest doing the two simultaneously!
Erin & Robin met in college and were together for years before the official proposal which occurred in two parts. The initial proposal took place in Fort Tryon Park after a visit to the Cloisters when Robin presented a letter (but no ring) to Erin in a notebook of his he had saved from college in which Erin had drawn pictures. The lack of a ring wasn’t an oversight, but a thoughtful gesture, knowing Erin would want to have fun picking out her ring. The following year Robin proposed yet again – this time with ring-in-hand on bended knee during a dinner overlooking Columbus Circle. Yup, two proposals!
They were both music majors when they met so it was natural that they designed their wedding as “a kind of extended concert experience,” as Robin described it.
They were married at the Riverside Church and started their day getting ready at the nearby International House…
The first look…
The festivities began in Sakura Park with a few readings, some song and a bagpiper who led the crowd in a processional to the nearby Riverside Church…
The architecture of The Nave made a gorgeous backdrop for the wedding…
As part of the ceremony Erin & Robin, who were in choir and an a cappella group together in college, both joined the choir for a musical selection…
The reception was held in the 9th floor lounge, with table cards all hand-drawn by Erin…
Robin wrote a musical selection as a surprise for Erin…
So many heartfelt words and beautiful sentiments…
Guests joined the couple outside for a few final readings and songs to end the celebration…
It was truly an honor to photograph such heartfelt and intimate celebration. Wishing you many years of beautiful music together. And thank you for the kind words below.
“We wanted to send a quick thank you to tell you how happy we were with everything. Your cheerful presence and guidance throughout the day and evening was wonderful – we were impressed with your handling of our family and your calm collected approach, and we felt very well taken care of. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did, and we loved working with you.” – Erin & Robin
